We have been developing a major project for the Holy Trinity Garrison and Parish Church in the town centre of Windsor recently. Our design includes a memorial garden to the soldiers from the Queen's Household Division lost in recent conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. The design has been well received by the local press and residents alike. Please enjoy this 3 D visualisation for the new church gardens and external landscape design.

Warfield Park QTRA tree Safety Survey Completed

We have just completed a safety survey of 2,440 trees throughout the Warfield Park settlement close to Ascot and Bracknell. We were asked to survey the trees by the park management to assess their condition and to proscribe recommended treeworks and long term management as well as obtaining their root protection areas. We were assisted by the many park residents and the management staff in this survey work. The survey schedules and plans will provide the basis for a long term management plan and for the development of new low impact building projects within the park area that lies over several hectares of land. We have shown some images below of the park and some typical trees:

Poyle Industrial Estate Development

We have been working on a landscape plan for a large industrial project at the Poyle Estate near Heathrow airport recently and it is currently going through the planning process. Here are few images of riverside treatments that we have proposed:

Completion of New Athletics Centre and Tree Planting at St Marys School, Ascot

We are pleased to have been involved in the design and implementation of the recently completed athletics centre and all weather tennis courts at St Marys independent catholic girls school in Ascot, Berkshire. They were officially opened by Denise Lewis the famous track athlete.  We completed the initial arboricultural survey and landscape analysis in 2011. We then designed the tree and hedgerow planting around the site. The site is sensitive as it is close to residential areas and attracted several comments during the planning application stage. The planting employs large semi mature trees to provide instant visual screening form the floodlights and other structures as well as providing an attractive setting for the sports activities. Below are a selection of images from the completed site.

Landscape Design and Planning for New Nursing Home in Peterborough

We have been working for nearly four years on the design and planning of the gardens and external spaces for the new Warwick Road nursing home in the Walton area of Peterborough for and on behalf of Landform Developments and Neil MacLeod Architects. The design features planted up seating areas enclosed with trellis fences, a sensory garden with raised beds, aromatic and tactile plants, bird baths/feeding stations, a woodland walk and extensive buffer planting of native trees and shrubs between the premises and the A15 dual carriageway. The new nursing home will care for people with conditions such as Dementia and those with mobility needs. The local press, Peterborough news, have published an article about the start of the construction of the nursing home, a further description of the facilities and the creation of 100 new jobs. We attach a link to it below along our layout drawing for the external spaces and gardens. We are excited that work has finally started on site with completion sometime next year.

Vauxhall-The Missing Link Competition March-April 2013

We teamed up with local landscape practice Draffin Associates to enter a competition sponsored by the Vauxhall One organisation, The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and the Landscape Institute (LI). The exciting proposal is to connect this part of London with the South Bank development to the north east and the new Battersea Power station American embassy development to the south west. The proposals also includes creating more pedestrian friendly shared spaces and reviving the Vauxhall pleasure gardens which were a famous pleasure gardens that existed until the 1860's. There were at least 100 entries form 21 countries for the competition and although we were not selected as the winner the images and extracts from our submission demonstrate our joint abilities in Urban Design and Green Infrastructure imaging.

Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead Design Review Panel Meeting

Interesting RB Windsor and Maidenhead design review panel presentation yesterday at the town hall to review Maidenhead Waterways scheme and proposed residential and retail developments in the town centre. Seemed like the scale of the building proposed were over the top and the public realm needed to be given better emphasis. Also saw a totally inappropriate art deco building design presented by a duo who reminded us of Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy sympathetic to that era.

Building Design Christmas Party

Trip up to London yesterday to attend the Building Design Tweet up Christmas party at Feilden Clegg architects office off Tottenham Court Road. Took the opportunity to visit the fantastic Trafalgar Square with the Christmas tree from Norway and fountains lit up with colourful LED lighting. Also enjoyed choir singing Christmas hits under the tree for a deaf children's charity. Enjoy images below. BD party was great fun and made many new friends and contacts there. My friend and associate Adrian won a fabulous book on the creation of Queen Elizabeth park by the Olympic stadium.
